Hello there! I choose the story ´The Ugly Duckling´
The plot of this story is straight forward and it starts as the ugly duckling being different to the rest of his family and all the other ducks consider him ugly. That would be the same as a conflict, since the other ducks also tease him, bite him, punch him and make fun of him too.
I think that the rising action of the story was when the ugly duckling had just met a pair of wild ducks, and when they then got shot it front of him.
I think that the part between the ugly duckling meeting the old lady, the purring cat and then hen (the two animals that thought they were the smartest and cleverest in the whole world), and the part where he decides to leave the cottage because the animals in the cottage aren't treating him well is the part BEFORE the climax.
The climax is when the ugly duckling meets the peasant, and expects him to kill him because he thinks he is so ugly, and as he bends down to hide his face, he sees his reflection in the water and notices that he is a beautiful swan.
The falling action is when he realises that there are more swans like him, when the children are feeding him bread and cake, and when the other swans stroked their beaks up his neck as a welcome.
The denouement is when the other swans bowed for him because he was the prettiest of them all.

So my short story is a native american story about the sky.
Exposition: So along time there was no darkness or violence and no animal ate each other. One day, a lion ate a goat because he got hungry, and soon enough the animals were eating each other so the gods got angry and put a black cloth over the world so that no one could see.
The rising action: The animals couldn't see a thing so they decided to get the birds to fly and poke a hole. All the birds and failed so a small little hummingbird decided to give it a try. Everyone thought the little bird couldn't get to the top, but the humming bird was still eager to try. So everyday little by little he would fly up to sky. Day after day, the hummingbird would fly up and fall back down.
Climax: One day the bird made a tiny hole in the sky. The next day he makes a bigger hole and the next day he made an even bigger hole. Soon, there were holes all over the black cloth.
The falling action Even though the bird was tired it kept on trying and one day he made a huge hole and landed on the outside of the black cloth, but sadly the little bird was so tired it had died.
Resolution: The gods saw this and saw that there was still good in the world. So the gods decided to take the black cloth half of the day and put it back on the other half. This is how the little hummingbird saved the world and how there is night and day.

__ Hi!!! I'm Lucy and I chose the story, The Hunchback of Notre Dame (it's not REALLY short, but still...) I was GOING to do Thumbelina, but Adri had explained the story so well, that I'm deciding on the Hunchback of Notre-Dame.
EXPOSITION: Quasimodo is born as a deformed hunchback that was forced to be adopted by the Archdeacon of Notre Dame, Claude Frollo. He always rung the bells of Paris, France. He is hidden from the public until the day of January 6th of 1482 came. This day was the day of the 'Feast of Fools.' Quasimodo was crowned the 'King of Fools' and this was when he met the beautiful Gypsy, Esmeralda.
RISING ACTION: Esmeralda is an innocent, kind-hearted woman that had captured the heart of many men, including Claude Frollo (the adoptive father of Quasimodo, the hunchback), the poor street poet, Pierre Gringoire, and Captain Phoebus. Unfortunately, Frollo is between an uneasy situation between love and the rules of church. So he orders Quasimodo to kidnap Esmeralda instead of him. Quasimodo is captured in the process of kidnapping by Captain Phoebus and his guards who comes to rescue Esmeralda from Quasimodo. Quasimodo is whipped and turned on the pillory for hours and hours. For this was tiring punishment, he begs for water and Esmeralda, seeing his pity, saves him with a cup of water.
CLIMAX: Frollo accuses Esmeralda of murdering Phoebus (when Frollo himself was the real murderer) when he sees Esmeralda and Phoebus being sympathetic towards one another and sentences Esmeralda to hanging in the gallows. As Esmeralda is led to the gallows, Quasimodo swings down the bells of the church of Notre Dame and carries Esmeralda to the cathedral, where they are protected by the law of sanctuary. A street performer named Clopin orders the criminals of Paris to rescue Esmeralda from the cathedral. But as the criminals are rescuing Esmeralda, Frollo begs the King to remove the rights of Esmeralda's sanctuary as to disable Esmeralda from seeking shelter in the church. Quasimodo, though, assumes that the criminals of Paris are here to kill Esmeralda and drives them away from the cathedral. When the King's men appear, he thinks they are here to help their situation and helps them locate Esmeralda. Esmeralda is saved by Frollo and her cowardly husband, Gringoire (who Esmeralda and only married him of pity). When Frollo tries yet again to win Esmeralda's love and fails, he turns his back against Esmeralda by handing her to the troops.
FALLING ACTION: Frollo watches Esmeralda being hanged and laughs. Quasimodo, meanwhile, pushes Frollo from the high belltower of Notre Dame and lets Frollo meet his doom.
THE (not really happy) RESOLUTION: Quasimodo finds Esmeralda, forgotten and thrown gruffly in a vault and stays next to Esmeralda's dead body until he dies from hunger. After 18 months of being forgotten, the vault is re-opened, and the guards only find skeletons. When they try to asunder the two corpse, Quasimodo's bones crumble away to dust.
Thanks for reading my plot and conflict thing! I know it's sad, but... I still like it... ----------------------------------------------

Hi!!! I'm Lucy and I chose the story, The Hunchback of Notre Dame (it's not REALLY short, but still...)
I was GOING to do Thumbelina, but Adri had explained the story so well, that I'm deciding on the Hunchback of Notre-Dame.
